Can you tell us about your new album?

Floor Plans is my 7th full length album but my first to explore the sound of the acoustic jazz quintet. This is extremely meaningful to me as a jazz student at heart who has spent years experimenting in the fields of production and electronics. Growing up listening to David Binney’s phenomenal records, it was an honor to have him produce and play on this record alongside another hero of mine, Mark Turner. The album features 8 compositions of mine that I’m very proud of.

What other projects are you currently involved with?

I’m lucky to be a part of many cutting-edge projects, including my frenetic punk/funk band Thumpasaurus, my bombastic electronic jazz duo Dolphin Hyperspace with Nicole McCabe, and production heavy jazz record creation team Outside World with Henry Solomon.

What are you currently listening to and what was the last CD or download you bought?

Last record I bought was Knower Forever by Knower. Absolutely incredible musicianship, writing, production and mixing throughout. I also was lucky enough to play acoustic bass in the string orchestra for the album!

What is your all-time favourite album and why?

All-time favourite album is going to have to be the Nervous Breakdown ep by Black Flag. This is an insanely hard question to answer. But this record holds a very specific energy that no other album quite achieves, and it’s an energy I’ve found very inspiring throughout my career.

Who has caught your attention recently that we should be listening out for?

I really loved vibraphonist Jalen Baker’s new album “Be Still”. It’s inspiring to see someone of a similar age to me putting out music at such a high level. The record is great, and I can’t wait to see what he does next.
