There are people who have an impact on jazz who do not play the music. Michael Cuscuna, an influential producer, was one such person.

Michael worked on the Blue Note catalogue when it was brought back to life and produced about sixty issues per year.

Michael with Charlie Lourie founded Mosaic Records in 1982. They started to issue high – quality reissue box sets featuring major jazz figures. The defining quality of the limited-edition sets was the superb sound quality and the comprehensive nature of the scholarly documentation.  The artists featured included Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis, Art Blakey, John Coltrane, Duke Ellington, Paul Desmond, Lennie Tristano and Count Basie.

Michael saw jazz as a great art form that deserves to be treated with respect and dignity..

Loren Schoenberg said: ‘If you love jazz, you owe something to this man.’

Thank you, Michael Cuscuna.
