Can you tell us about your new album?
Mosaic is my most recent recording featuring original music written between 2021-2023. These compositions are from times of growth, discovery, grief, and hope. Many of these compositions are dedicated to female mentors in my life from a collection of music I wrote for the Los Angeles Jazz Society Jeff Clayton New Note Commission, inspired by the women who gave me the strength to keep playing. I am grateful I got to feature Logan Kane, Tim Angulo, and Julius Rodriguez on this album along with appearances from Jeff Parker, Jon Hatamiya, and Aaron Yanik.
What other projects are you currently involved in?
I am involved in an electronic jazz duo with bassist Logan Kane called Dolphin Hyperspace and play regularly with artists such as Joshua White, Spencer Zahn, Justin Brown, and Brendan Edar.
What are you currently listening to and what was the last CD or download you bought?
I am currently listening to Gerald Clayton’s record Happenings: Live at the Village Vanguard! I have been learning a couple tunes from this record and love his writing and this band so much!
What is your all-time favourite album and why?
Know What I Mean? the Cannonball Adderley record featuring Bill Evans. It was the first jazz CD I ever bought my junior year in high school. I got it from Amoeba records in Berkeley, CA and memorized every solo on it!
Who has caught your attention recently that we should be listening out for?
So many incredible people! I have enjoyed working with everyone in my New Music USA next jazz legacy cohort of 2024, they are an incredible group of women who are all doing amazing things in their career. Amyra León, Christie Dashiell, Kanoa Mendenhall, Yvonne Rogers, Eliza Salem and Ciara Moser.
