Can you tell us about your new album?

“Dreamers Ball” is a collection of songs from past and present. A few of my most popular songs like ‘The Real Thing’ and ‘How Did You Do That’ have been re-styled and sit comfortably beside my latest reflections. It was important for me to record this album in an organic, honest way, just like my hero and heroines did in the early recording days.

Multi Award winning producer James MacMillan captured the band sound beautifully in single takes at his studio in Hastings. The outstanding players are Mark Edwards, Loz Garratt, Matt Skelton, Dom Stockbridge and Evan Jenkins.

What other projects are you currently involved with?

I am excited to be working with Opera Singer ‘Isin Turan’ who has picked my song ‘The Real Thing’ to perform at Abbey Road Studios with the London Philharmonic.

Isin has been coming to my shows for a while and fell in love with the song. I cannot wait to hear her perform this piece (in Italian no less!) alongside another song we wrote together with my long standing collaborator and well known producer Andy Wright (Simply Red).

What are you currently listening to and what was the last CD or download you bought?

I am almost ashamed to say I only just discovered Abbey Lincoln. I love her voice. She has those deep rich (lived a thousand lives) vocals, similar to that of my favourite singer – Nina Simone!

What is your all-time favourite album and why?

My all time favourite album has to be Nina Simone – Feeling Good. That was the album, with all its heart aching beauty that lead me to discover other Jazz giants like Ella, Peggy, Julie London and Billie Holiday.

I must have been about 14 and I remember hearing Feeling Good for the first time, on a film my brother was working on at college – I think my heart stopped for a moment because I held my breath so long just to hear every essence of it!

Who has caught your attention recently that we should be listening out for?

I run a Pop Up Jazz club in my hometown Henley- On-Thames and I have heard some amazing guest singers but I have to say that Kitty Harrison (also known as Kitty La Roar) is one of the most mesmerising singers and performers on the scene.
