Please can you tell us about your new album and UK album launch?
Sara: Ribbons Vol.1 is a collection of story-songs, original music that have found their way into this world over the last five years, with all but one of the tracks written together. The album features lots of our favourite musicians as guests, bringing their own clear and glorious musicality to the whole. It feels like each track is its own tiny world of a feeling or an experience, finessed and chiselled in what became quite a prolonged process in these days where the possibility of making music one week and releasing it the next is very real!!
For us, life meant we were in and out of this music over time, building the sound and songs when we had time to do that, together.
Ribbons Vol.1 definitely represents where Rebecca and I meet, in our influences and writing. It’s the intersection of our musical instincts and journeys.
We performed most of the music from the album at an amazing launch gig in the gorgeous World Heartbeat Centre as part of the LJF last November, with Jonathan Silk (drums) and Henrik Jensen (bass) The album is officially released on Feb 20th 2026.
What other projects are you currently involved in?
Rebecca: I lead a piano trio called Aurum, playing my original compositions. Sarsen Drift is an electronic music project with my brilliant trumpet/producer friend Nick Walters, featuring music we have both written. I also have a new duo with saxophonist Alex Merritt.
Sara: I’m one third of new vocal trio called Treyja, writing and arranging music with fellow vocalists Clare Wheeler and Tara Minton. I’m doing more gigs this year with music from my album Ink On A Pin: A Celebration of Joni Mitchell (Becs plays in both those bands too!!) I’m also currently writing songs for my new chamber music ensemble….
What are you currently listening to and what was the last CD or download you bought?
Rebecca: The last CD I bought was last Sunday at Bath Jazz weekend. It was a copy of Elliot Galvin’s ‘The Ruin’
I have also been listening to the Ligeti Piano Etudes
Sara: The last album I bought was a re-release of Five Leaves Left by Nick Drake on vinyl.
In the last few months I’ve repeatedly listened to Wild and Clear and Blue by I’m With Her, and I’ve been recently reunited with the eponymous 1987 Michael Brecker album
What is your all-time favourite album and why?
Rebecca: It’s very hard to choose a number one, but something I always come back to is the Joni Mitchell / Vince Mendoza album Both Sides Now. Joni’s writing and Vince’s arrangements are sublime.
Sara: Rickie Lee Jones by Rickie Lee Jones – I enjoy it on so many levels: the grooves, the instrumentation and arrangements, the very original songwriting, the performances and also RLJ’s voice!! I’ve been listening to it for a long time and it can still induce absolute joy and sad tears!
Who has caught you attention recently that we should be listening out for?
Rebecca: Fred Herch: ‘The surrounding green’ came out last year — he’s obviously a piano giant — this music is so deep.
Also, a new band called Exhaust which features Andrew Lisle, Kit Downes, and Camila Nebbla. It’s great – it’s very free and they’re doing some super interesting things.
Sara: Ben Wendel has a new album coming out in March called BaRcoDe which sounds really interesting – the first single called MIMO is out now and the band also features tuned percussion and electronics
Sara Aldén from Sweden is a brilliant vocalist and also an activist especially for young women playing jazz – She has a new single feat Nils Landgren coming out soon!
